Farragut not only provides a military order and structure to help prepare students for college and beyond, but also a well-rounded experience with opportunities to be involved in signature academic programs and many extracurricular activities outside of the academic day. Below is an example of the day of the life of a boarding student who attends Admiral Farragut Academy.

From the time “Reveille” is played in the morning to when “Taps” is played in the evening, a boarding student’s life is filled with opportunities to learn, grow, and bond. Time is displayed in military time. Exact times are subject to change.
Here is an example of a Weekday Schedule:
0630 – Reveille is the daily morning bugle call to wake up.
0650/1710 – Breakfast is served.
Temperatures are taken by residential staff for all boarding students before entering the Mess Hall and starting the school day. We also stagger breakfast to promote social distancing.
0650 – All boarding students that reside on the 3rd floor are to report to breakfast.
0710 – All boarding students that reside on the 2nd floor are to report to breakfast.
0715-0730 – Laundry drop-off and pick-up are Monday and Thursday.
0730 – Morning academic tutorial is offered every day for thirty minutes before school starts by all faculty members in their classroom.
0745-0800 – Students report to their first class and dorms are locked for the academic day.
0800-1505 – Academic school day is in session.
Our 2021-2022 academic school day consists of a rotating schedule of six periods, two lunch periods, and a daily assembly.
0800-1505 – Academic school day
1135-1205 – First lunch is served.
1225-1255 – Second lunch is served.
1505-1645 – Extracurriculars and athletics
Boarding students are encouraged to participate in extracurricular activities such as athletics, band, drill, the waterfront, intramurals, and the arts. Those who are not, are required to be out of the dormitories and be active outside, ie: jogging the track, playing basketball, etc.
1700-1800 – Dinner is served.
1800-1845 – Free time. This time is to be used for daily hygiene and for cleaning one’s room
1900-2030 – Weekday study hall
All boarding students are required to be back in the dormitory or in the designated mandatory study hall room.
1900-2030 – Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday
1830-2000 – Thursday will also include a deep cleaning of the dormitories
2030-2100 – Uniform preparation for the next day.
2100-2145 – Free time. This time is to be used for daily hygiene and for cleaning one’s room.
2145-2150 – CQ (Call to Quarters) is when all boarding students must report to their dorm rooms. Temperatures are taken by residential life staff.
2200 – Taps is the daily evening bugle call to end the day. Boarding students are required to fall out and stand at attention outside their dorm room until everyone is accounted for. Afterward, all boarding students must stay in their rooms for the remainder of the evening. Room lights should be turned off, however; boarding students may ask for additional time to study quietly at their desks with the desk light on. Each request is approved on a case-by-case basis.
Here is an example of a Weekend Schedule:
Boarding students may go on “liberty” and go off of campus if approved by their parents/guardians and for four-hour increments at a time during specific hours. They are required to check back in on campus before their allotted time period is up. Boarding students may also go on “leave” to spend the weekend with approved family and friends if approved by their parents/guardians.
1000-1200 – Brunch is served on Saturday and Sunday.
1000-1200 – Waterfront is open on Saturdays depending upon weather conditions.
1700-1800 – Dinner is served on Saturday and Sunday.
1800 – All boarding students must be back from liberty or leave on Sunday and begin preparing for the academic week by completing any unfinished homework, cleaning their room, and preparing their uniforms.
1900 – Sunday evening study hall
2030-2100 – Uniform preparation for the next day.
2100-2145 – Free time.
2145-2150 – CQ (Call to Quarters)
2200 – Taps
