Diving Deep: Scuba program recap from the 2020-2021 school year
Admiral Farragut Academy’s Scuba classes spent the 2020-2021 school year earning up to 62 certifications and diving at three different natural spring locations throughout Florida.
62 total earned scuba certifications
- 15 open water
- 20 advanced open water
- 10 rescue diver
- 7 master diver
- 2 divemaster
The Class of 2021 alone earned 16 scuba certifications
- 4 open water
- 5 advanced open water
- 4 rescue diver
- 3 master diver
Trips taken:
- 4 overnight trips to Devil’s Den and Blue Grotto
- 5 trips to Hudson Grotto, where students earned advanced and/or rescue certifications
About the Scuba Program:
Scuba Diving is offered as an elective during the academic day for grades 9-12. Throughout the year, students learn to be safe, knowledgeable, and improve techniques well beyond the basic diving physics, physiology, and decompression theory that are typically obtained in scuba courses. All scuba certifications are honored internationally and can be carried for a lifetime. Students who complete the entire curriculum have the opportunity to earn the following certifications:
- Basic, Cost $1,100: Open Water Diver/First Aid/CPR/Advanced Diver
- Master Diver, Cost $600: Rescue Diver/Nitrox/Master Diver
- Divemaster, Cost $500: Professional Level
Scuba Club is also offered for those who are certified but are not enrolled in the curriculum.
