Farragut's Varsity Softball team wins state championship for second year in a row

On May 22, 2019, the Admiral Farragut Academy Varsity Softball team made history again, winning their second Class 3A state softball state championship in a row.

This time, it wasn’t just school history, but local history as well, as the team became one of only four bay area teams to have ever won two straight softball titles (the others were Palm Harbor University (2004-05), Canterbury (2013-14) and Academy at the Lakes (2018-19)).

“This means the world to me,” said starting pitcher Bre Benefield ‘20, who allowed eight hits and struck out 12. “The favorite part of my life in my high school career is to sit here and make it all the way back to states again — and win.”

“Farragut has helped shape me into the adult that I want to be and will continue to assist me in achieving any future goals that I may have,” said Alyssa Rano, whose sixth inning three-run homer, the team’s 12th homer of the year, set a school record state championship. “I have developed a strong work ethic, which has helped me maintain exceptional academics and, now, win two state titles. I could not have obtained such a beneficial trait elsewhere.”

“It has been a great season and the school’s support of these girls has been AWESOME,” Head Coach Bill Hoopes said. “Thank you to the administration and CAPT Fine for the opportunity to guide this team. The support this school gives these players is noticeable and goes a long way to help them in their athletic and academic lives.”
