Naval Science program earns the 2020-2021 Distinguished Unit Award with Academic Honors
Admiral Farragut Academy’s Upper School Naval Science Program has received the Distinguished Unit Award (DUA) with Academic Honors for the 2020-2021 school year. The Distinguished Unit Award is given to an NJROTC unit from their respective area headquarters.
The award is based on a point system recognizing participation and completion of various facets of the NJROTC program, including drill, orienteering, physical fitness, academics, and community service. The Area Manager does an annual inspection of each unit and evaluates these various aspects of the unit’s performance. The inspection includes a review of processes within the unit, community service, and engagement, as well as scholarships awarded to the unit’s cadets.
In addition, the NJROTC unit Cadet Commanding Officer must make a presentation to the Area Manager concerning the state of the unit. Units must set and accomplish goals for the year to attain this award. The award consists of a ribbon that may be worn on uniforms by the cadets that attained it. Additional awards are recognized with a star on the ribbon.
The Academic Honors portion of the award means that Admiral Farragut Academy is among the top 20% of the 600+ NJROTC units within the nation and overseas, academically. With this designation, the Senior Naval Science Instructor is given an additional three nominations to the United States Naval Academy.
Even with this being a very challenging year, our cadets performed very well. The Naval Science department would like to thank everyone who helped to make this award possible.
